Services Design Solution Celebrates 20 Years of Sustainable Engineering Excellence

Services Design Solution (SDS) proudly announces its 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of sustainability and engineering design, marked by growth, their commitment to the environment and endeavours in social responsibility.

Founded in 2004, SDS has established itself as a leader in its field, earning prestigious national accolades including the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, a UK Award for Delivering Social Value and recognition as one of the UK’s top 150 professional construction consultants and Top 50 Engineers.

Established in Plymouth, SDS has expanded its footprint over the years, with offices now located in Exeter, Bristol, Cardiff, and Cornwall. This expansion reflects SDS’s dedication to serving communities across the Southwest, whilst delivering projects across the whole of the UK, bringing cutting-edge design that prioritise environmental stewardship and community enrichment.

Among these is the UK’s first National Marine Park in Plymouth Sound, which won a national award for delivering social value. SDS also established its precedent in healthcare with the NHS Nightingale Exeter, delivering the project in just 57 days during the pandemic. Its residential portfolio includes Redcliff Quarter in Bristol and Exeter’s Clifton Hill, the city’s first Passivhaus-standard homes, demonstrating their dedication to sustainable living.

Other developments like the Carbis Bay Hotel, which was chosen as the host for the G7 summit due to its green credentials, and decarbonisation works under the Futures for Somerset programme, deliver lasting environmental benefits for both leisure and education.

At the heart of SDS’s success is a steadfast commitment to staff development and training. The company invests heavily in its people, supporting more than 30 apprentices and 86 graduates over the last 7 years, providing learning opportunities to nurture talent and drive innovation. This investment in people not only ensures the highest standards of service delivery but supports the development of STEM careers, fostering  talent for the future.

Since the business’ conception, social value has been embedded in SDS’s mission through its commitment to the community. As part of its business strategy, the company sets social value targets and initiatives, dedicating 1% of turnover to provide financial support to local communities. More than £280,000 has been donated in support of initiatives in the last 4 years. As pioneers for lasting impact, SDS remains a positive force for change in creating legacies beyond its projects.

As SDS commemorates its 20th anniversary, the celebrations will be marked with an afternoon tea for 20 charities from across the Southwest region thanking them for the vital work they do. A special gift will be presented to each of the charities in attendance.
