Backing local construction skills with Building Greater Exeter
16th Sep, 2019
SDS are proud partners of Building Greater Exeter, an initiative aimed at inspiring the future workforce through engaging with schools and young people.
The collaborative group, set up by Exeter City, East Devon and Teignbridge District Councils, supports local people into local jobs in the construction sector and has 3 key areas of focus;
- Inspire the future workforce through an effective engagement programme with schools and young people
- Support employers by facilitating recruitment to existing vacancies and providing opportunities for up-skilling and re-skilling
- Support the adoption of the National Skills Academy for Construction model using the Client Based Approach, through procurement and planning.
Regional Director for our Exeter office, James Laughlin commented “We are very pleased to be supporting Building Greater Exeter, their values aligned very well with ours. We believe strongly in mentoring and developing young people through school engagement, apprenticeship and graduate training programmes”.
There are a number of major projects and developments taking place across Exeter and East Devon, including Middlemoor Police Station and St Sidwell’s Point. You can read more about the other partners and projects here.
