Apprentice Electrical Design Engineer

SDS requires an Apprentice Electrical Design Technician in our Exeter office. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to come in to an established consultancy at entry level in order to train and develop industry skills.

The role, in the first instance, will include Auto Cad drawing, undertaking electrical calculations and using 3D modelling software, assistance on surveys, project research and administration. Some telephone work will be involved and therefore good communication skills are required.

Working in a friendly environment you will assist the electrical engineers in all aspects of electrical design. You will be assigned a mentor within your team who will work and liaise closely with you in your day-to-day work.

Entry requirements:  A minimum of five GCSEs grade C or above which must include English, Maths, Science

Qualifications to be taken as part of this apprenticeship:

  • Level 3 and 4 (HNC)
  • Employee rights and responsibilities
  • Functional skills in Maths and English (if applicable)


What Next?

A qualified technician role with individual project responsibility following completion of the apprenticeship. Work towards professional registration as an Engineering Technician with the Engineering Council and The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

There will be a long-term opportunity to undertake a sponsored degree qualification on a day-release basis and work towards becoming an Electrical Design Engineer with professional chartership registration.
