Community Diagnostic Centre
Design of the Community Diagnostic Centre for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, aimed at reducing health inequalities, shortening diagnostic times, and improving recovery rates and life expectancy across the region.
SDS has played a key role in the development of the Community Diagnostic Centre at Colin Campbell Court in Plymouth, delivering a range of specialist services as part of the project team. Commissioned by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and funded by NHS England, the centre forms part of a national initiative to increase NHS diagnostic capacity.
The three-storey, 3,000 sqm building will provide MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound, lung function testing, audiology, and echocardiography services, along with dedicated staff areas, creating a modern, patient-focused clinical environment.
Sustainability is integral to the design, with a rooftop solar PV array, a top-floor plant room, and full integration of the NHS Net Zero Carbon Toolkit to support a zero-carbon, future-ready healthcare facility.
Involvement
- Undertook a two-stage performance design, specification, and detailing of mechanical and electrical services.
- Led the MEP design to RIBA Stage 3, ensuring integrated, efficient, and compliant systems.
- Coordinated Net Zero Carbon initiatives, embedding the NHS Toolkit for energy optimisation and the use of low-carbon materials.
- Supported modern methods of construction (MMC) by integrating off-site construction techniques to enhance buildability and sustainability.
- Provided advice on the BREEAM strategy in alignment with NHS environmental targets.
- Delivered a future-ready, sustainable diagnostic centre through effective multidisciplinary collaboration.
