Cornwall Council Leisure Centres

Project Description

Green Cornwall is a capital investment programme to reduce the carbon impact of the existing building stock in the property portfolio of the county. The initiative includes PV installation, biomass boiler installation, building management system upgrades, meter installation for monitoring and targeting, lighting upgrades, heat pump installations, gas CHP units, voltage optimisation, lighting control systems, and leisure centre energy surveys and improvement proposals.

The leisure centres included swimming pools, changing facilities, gymnasiums, dance studios and sports courts.

Project Involvement

  • As a part of the Green Cornwall initiative we were appointed to undertake energy and condition surveys of the existing sites including:
    Newquay Waterworld
  • Camelford Leisure Centre
  • Wadebridge Leisure Centre
  • Dragon Leisure Centre
  • Polkyth Leisure Centre
  • Helston Sports Centre
  • Splash Leisure Centre Bude

Attended initial client briefing meetings to understand client aspirations

Undertook full condition / survey of existing and reported with findings recommendations and budget costs

Following our findings we were commissioned to undertake detailed design and specification of upgrades to mechanical and electrical systems. The existing backlog maintenance issues provides energy improvement at each of the sites.

Majority of works based on an energy cost saving payback period of 10 years or less

All leisure centres remained open with limited and phased disruption only
