Replacement of an existing absorption chiller with 11 kV 1560 kWe gas combined heating and power (CHP) unit.
The works comprised the complete design, supply, installation and commissioning of a new 11 kV 1560 kWe gas fired combined heat and power plant suitable for a marine environment along with all associated mechanical and electrical works and heat dump facility.
Acted as client technical advisors and fulfilled the duties of supervisor under the NEC Option C Contract including offering practical construction advice and guidance to the client team.
Took part in risk workshops, liaised with contractor and designer to establish testing and inspecting to be undertaken.
Monitoring and inspection of contractor works, issuing of defects notices, witness testing, record keeping, inspection and acceptances.
Heat recover system to extract heat from the CHP gases to provide heat directly into the existing HTHW system.
Connection of the new 11 kV electrical output from the CHP to the main hospital system.
Identified client risk elements which could lead to compensation events and suggested mitigation measures.
Review of contractor programme to ensure it was reflective of client responsibilities.
Reviewed programme with regards to client cashflow expenditure requirements suggesting amendment to meet year end requirements.
Highlighted associated health and safety risks not considered or implemented by the contractor.
