Project Description

Creation of £3.5m 3-storey creative industries building for Exeter College

£750k Refurbishment and extension of existing Victoria Road Studios

Creative studies block was created to house engineering, media, art and design and performing arts studies with high levels of natural daylight through

This project comprised of the relocation of the existing art block and workshops. The project comprised of new dark room, woodwork room, welding bay, pottery room and kiln room. Extension block provided to house the College’s reprographic facilities together with additional pottery and screen printing areas

Piped welding gas supplies, with external bottle storage area for oxygen and acetelyn

Control compressed air supplies to bench areas

Welding bay extract system utilising flexible welding extract arms connected to a centralised duct system

A dust extraction system was designed to provide extraction to the woodwork workshop utilising external dust extractor unit

Full incoming LV Switchgear mains with replacement mains at Victoria Yard

Full fire alarm rewire to Victoria Yard and Falcon Road

Provision of power distribution and emergency control systems to specialist equipment including welding plant, lathes, milling machines, drills, lathes, bandsaws vacuum systems, and compressors

Design of lighting arrangement to dark rooms

£3.5m three storey creative industries teaching block, and £750k refurbishment of existing Victoria Road studios comprising of IT rooms, learning resource centre, full commercial catering facility and teaching rooms

Project Involvement

Detailed survey of existing building, and specialist equipment to be re-used

Infrastructure review and site diversions to accommodate the works

Detailed design of building mechanical and electrical engineering services including full production of detailed design information

Full- co-ordination of mechanical and electrical requirements for specialist activities spaces, new and existing equipment

Project Benefits

Identify extent of asbestos removal requirement to accommodate installation of the M&E Services

Survey and schedule existing equipment to be re-used and services supplies required to service the same

Design specialist local exhaust extract systems to limit exposure limits as recommended through COSHH data sheets

Infrastructure design for increase site load

Design of IT infrastructure for reprographics area

Fast-track delivery of Victoria Road studios to meet term timetable

Work with Contracting team to meet project budget constraints

Careful luminaire selection to ensure good colour rendering in art studios and lighting controls to maximise the benefits of the natural daylight provision.
