Project Description

New 1600m2 two storey self-contained building at Gordano School

The ground floor consists of large Kitchen, Dining, ICT and Library areas with additional 7no teaching classroom on the first floor

A central mechanical and electrical plant room located on the ground floor along with ancillary toilet areas located on both floors

Space for the new building was created by demolishing and remodelling the existing teaching block.

Project Involvement

Survey of existing buildings to be demolished

Survey of existing site mechanical and electrical infrastructure to ascertain connection points

Liaising with statutory authorities to establish existing gas, water and electricity capacity

Full detailed design for mechanical and electrical services for the building and external buried services connecting to the existing site infrastructures

As part of our design we carried out detailed calculations using Relux for lighting, Amtech for electrical calculations and Hevacomp for mechanical calculations

Detailed design information producing in Revit MEP to inform the building information model

Undertaking a thermal model, daylight model and low and zero carbon study.

Attending design team meetings and attending site meetings once the project was on site.

Efficient MEP systems and controls that offer reliability and ease of maintenance

SBEM calculations and EPC certification to prove Part L Building Regulations compliance

Undertook full surveys of existing building infrastructure, identify points of interface for connection of new services, and to identify necessary upgrade works to accommodate the extended facility

Automatic occupancy sensing and daylight regulation of lighting within all occupied rooms for energy saving

Additional scene setting control of lighting within the dining area and library to provide flexibility for multi-use space

Wind catchers/ventilation units to roof incorporated to ventilate classrooms without external walls and avoid requirement for installing forced mechanical ventilation or air conditioning.
