Little Harbour Children’s Hospice

Project Description

£5m Children’s Hospice on the outskirts of St Austell, Cornwall for the Children’s Hospice South West.

Provides bespoke care and the needs for limited life children across the area.

A facility containing a range of bedrooms for children, their families and therapy rooms, and support for outreach activities.

Won best SW commercial building over £1m at the LABC Awards.

Little Harbour is a home-from-home, with beautiful sea views with a ‘holiday home’ setting

Project Involvement

Extensive stakeholder engagement meetings required to capture the human factor considerations to deliver a facility that accommodates the variety of additional needs required.

Creating a homely end appearance by accommodating complex engineering systems, requiring a high degree of co-ordination and creativity in concealing the services, whilst maintaining suitable means of access for maintenance.

Detailed design, specification and quality control of the building engineering mechanical & electrical services.

Project Benefits

Undertook a thermal model of the proposed development to demonstrate the carbon footprint and confirm the development is not subject to summertime overheating for submission to meet the requirements of Part L Building Regulations.

Provision of renewable primary heating system via heat pumps.

Full patient call and patient listening systems.

Hydrotherapy pool.

Feature spaces including ‘Narnia Garden’ and ‘Snoozella Room’Multi-faith religious worship space.

External lighting submissions to planning authority as a condition of building in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
