Oakwood Primary School, Plymouth

Project Description

£4m extension and refurbishment of a primary school on an existing site for Plymouth City Council with Interserve
The project achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating
The school features all new services including ground source heat pump heating, rainwater recovery, domestic services, sprinkler installation, heat recovery ventilation, low energy lighting, IT infrastructure, security and small power
A full thermal model was carried out in compliance with BB101 and Building Regulation L2
A full daylight model was prepared
The GSHP units have electricity and heat meters to allow the performance coefficients to be displayed

Oakwood Primary School, Plymouth is a state school for 282 boys and girls aged from 3 to 11

Detailed design of the mechanical & electrical engineering services, thermal modelling, daylight modelling and BREEAM compliance

Project Benefits

The school was developed to incorporate low energy design; the systems installed can be used as a teaching aid
The school remained fully operational during the construction and refurbishment period
Provision of temporary supplies were incorporated into the design to maintain water, heating and power supplies
