Petroc is one of the South West’s leading Further Education (FE) colleges. The main campuses are in Barnstaple and Tiverton drawing students from all over Devon, Cornwall, and Somerset and much further afield
Whilst most students are young learners (aged 14 to 19), the college can deliver all kinds of learning opportunities to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities; from degree courses in partnership with Plymouth University, training for employers, apprenticeships and adult education classes
The Barnstaple campus was constructed circa 1960 and has grown considerably over time
SDS carried out a campus wide non-intrusive condition and maintenance survey of the Barnstaple campus
The high level review determined priority areas for general mechanical and electrical works on a system by system basis
Systems surveyed included the existing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, fire alarms, hot and cold water, switchboards and power
The spreadsheet based report included approximate SPONS based costing appraisal for future system replacement over the short, medium and long term
In addition to the survey, an audit was undertaken on the college’s compliance with statutory maintenance, testing and safety requirements.
The report allowed the college to identify which buildings and systems, on the Barnstaple campus, were a maintenance priority and allow preparation of future outline spending plans.
