A £7.7m extension to Plymouth College of Art and Design, state of the art, craft and digital design workshop block for Contemporary Crafts practice.
Phase 1 consisted of 1,800m² of workshops and studio space for the Fine Art, Glass and Ceramics departments, phase 2 included a further 1750 m² of workshop and studio spaces for wood-making, jewellery design and fine art printing and digital design lab with 3D printing facilities enabling prototype production, using computer aided design. Student work stations, communal hubs and display areas.
Heating via. all air variable air volume system (VAV) with heater batteries from extension to existing gas boiler provision.
Full mechanically ventilated with heat recovery. Provision of feature and decorative lighting were specified to enhance ‘Look and Feel’.
Specialist extraction systems to fume extract, acid bath extraction, braising, hearths, furnace and dust.
ICT Infrastructure to CAD/CAM, 3D printing and digital workshop.
Integration to existing fire alarm and security systems.
