Project Description

Development of new international standard cricket facilities for Somerset County Cricket Club

Construction of a new grandstand facility for over 3,000 seats, with the incorporation 65 luxury apartments and basement car parking and commercial units fronting on to the town centre built for the 2009 ICC Twenty20 World Championship

Full corporate hosting and conferencing facilities with new Members’ Suite to include corporate entertainment facilities along with catering stands and public w.c.’s

Constructed in phases in order to allow cricket and other club business to proceed with minimal interruption

This phase 1 scheme was a part of a £60m investment scheme to deliver a cricket stadium capable of hosting up to 15,000 spectators

Approved English Cricket Board (ECB) for international one day cricket, with smaller international fixtures to be held at the ground in the future.

£7.5m new 3,000 seat stand with mixture of housing and corporate facilities for the Club to support international one day cricket

Project Involvement

Full and detailed design of building mechanical and electrical engineering services to the new stand, members suite, conferencing facilities and residential block

Complete load assessments including provision to accommodate the proposed future phases

Undertake infrastructure review, identify site diversions and complete the detailed design of site infrastructure and services to accommodate the development

Thermal modelling of glazed South-facing penthouse apartments with façade engineering proposals to limit overheating

Develop Energy strategies to meet planning requirements

SBEM calculations and EPC certification to prove Part L Building Regulations compliance.

Project Benefits

Engagement in value engineering process, highlighting the risk and benefits of alternative design options

Liaison with specialist access, security monitoring, public adress and fire specialist to ensure compliance and integration of proposed voice evacuation and public safety systems to meet
stadium recommendations

Design of infrastructure provision to facilitate electronic communication with spectators including audio distribution, electronic scoreboards, and video screens including provision for
displaying messages during emergencies connected to standby power supply

Lighting design prepared to meet the practical design guidelines for the lighting of sports events for colour television and filming

Incorporation of Sport England design guidance on the Accessible Sports facilities.
