SDS were appointed by Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust to undertake a non-invasive, visual survey and formulate design proposals of the existing services at St Michaels Hospital to improve adjacencies and environments for patients, visitors and staff.
Option appraisals were carried out on the hospital to provide enhanced pre-operative assessment facilities, a sustainable Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic and review facilities for the Neurological Rehabilitation Service.
SDS undertook design proposals working with the integrated design team to produce options suitable to the Trust’s needs.
Working with the design team, cost management and healthcare planning services in order to develop the initial brief and formulate design proposals.
Carried out surveys and factual investigations for the design of the works, coordinating and reviewing the survey results for incorporation into the design.
Reviewed and reported on the condition/status of any existing services installations to the Trust.
Carried out a review of feasibility of incorporating renewable technologies into the proposals.
Provided advice on existing and proposed services sufficiency, statutory and utility provider requirements, energy strategy options, sustainability options, in order to inform the outline proposals.
Identify implications of all options on the existing mechanical and electrical systems.
Engaging with the design team and the Trust to highlight any risks and benefits of design options.
Evaluated physical, environmental, functional and regulatory constraints from clients’ brief, for potential schemes.
Pro-active advice on the engineering requirements of the Health Technical Memorandum and Health Building Notes.
