University of Exeter Physics Building – 1st, 2nd and 3rd Floors

Project Description

Creation of academic offices, post-doctoral, PhD space, research and seminar rooms and provision of experimental research spaces

Concept and briefing meetings held with the University’s technical team during early design stage to establish exact end-user requirements

Prompt delivery of tender documentation to allow tender process and Contractor selection for a summer shut-down refurbishment programme

Technical challenges included LED lighting in areas where future maintenance would be problematic, aspirated fire alarm detection within inaccessible ceilings and high density structured wiring for voice and data communications

Provision of feature and decorative lighting were specified to enhance ‘Look and Feel’

Compact fluorescent lamps – DSI ballasts – daylight dimming adjacent windows supplemented with automatic occupancy sensing with manual over-ride
Recessed down-lights within corridors and WC areas

600×600 recessed modular lighting with direct/indirect diffusers within office and teaching spaces.

The £2m refurbishment of an 8 storey Physics Building to a standard reflecting a top 10 teaching and research facility
