Project Description

£10m new build, engineering and science college located in Newton Abbot, South Devon with contractor BAM

The building is 5,500m2, 3-storey teaching block with 5 science classrooms and associated preparations rooms, 3 engineering workshops including CNC, 7 design studios, 11 general teaching rooms and 3 learning resource centres

The facility has a 350m2 sports arena, full catering kitchen and dining facility, lecture room, staff, meeting rooms and offices

Heating was provided using natural gas, condensing boilers, radiators with under floor heating and radiant panels

A mix of natural, mechanical and specialist ventilation

Air conditioning was provided to ICT areas LED lighting was provided in the challenge arena, entrance atrium, WC’s and circulation space

The building achieved BREEAM Very Good

The University Technical College, South Devon is a new partnership between South Devon College, University of Exeter, Teignbridge District Council and the Federation of Small Business, supported by CIWEM

Project Involvement

Detailed design of building mechanical and electrical engineering services including full production of detailed design information in Revit MEP to inform the Building Information Model, thermal model, daylight model and low and zero carbon study

Project Benefits

Fully detailed design of M&E services in BIM, with clash detection to co-ordinate the services within the building and structure

Provision of services to the specialist scientific engineering

equipment, laboratory equipment, and specialist ICT services

Design of ICT infrastructure to facilitate integrated web-based online learning, multimedia interactive teaching and learning with video, audio and communication support, video-conferencing and media displays
