A new £1.6m courtyard infill development, built by Kier under the SCAPE framework and completed in late 2014
The project created a new Open Access Learning Zone, an expanded refectory and bar area and a first floor library extension. Rehearsal and performance space was created for students
relocating from St Matthias’s campus
SDS undertook the initial feasibility stage and provided performance specifications for the works and the refurbishment of the existing ground and first floors
Work included initial survey of the site, representation at design team meetings, presentation of a services strategy and production of the mechanical and electrical performance specification
Consultation with the client team covered approach to facilities management and future development. Load estimates were prepared, the infrastructure reviewed and site diversions planned
to accommodate the works
Refurbishment and extensions to the existing building involved extending the power, lighting, heating, hot cold water services and the above and below ground drainage
Lightning conductors, fire equipment, alarms, security systems, ventilation, voice and data were specified. Full co-ordination for specialist activities spaces, new and existing equipment
Pro-active advice on the requirements of the relevant British Standard, CIBSE and BSRA Guides and Building Regulations
Full surveys of existing building infrastructure to identify points of interface for new services, and upgrade works to accommodate the extended building. All within budget constraints
