Cavell Centre
A vibrant, creative space providing co-designed activities that support health, wellbeing, and support, while aligning with the Trust’s strategic goals, including zero carbon aspirations and modular construction for reduced embodied carbon.
SDS were appointed to undertaken a two stage performance design, specification and detailing of M & E services for the Cavell Centre as part of a vision of the Integrated Care System, designed to provide integrated centres as part of a national redevelopment programme. The Cavell Centres were vibrant and creative, and in practice, provided co-designed and co-produced activities that served as catalysts for health, wellbeing, and support. The centre was aligned with the Trust’s strategic goals, including zero carbon aspirations and modular construction.
Involvement
- Two-stage performance design, specification and detailing of mechanical and electrical services
- Sustainability engineering
- BREEAM assessment
- Use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) which nurture employment in the local community
- Production of information to assist with business case including advice on impact of social value for the local area
- Full BIM integration and digital coordination per BEP requirements
- Designs aligned with NHS Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) and Health Building Notes (HBN) standards

- Produced a Net Zero whole life carbon design using the first issue of the new NHS Net Zero Carbon toolkit
- Engineered in systems to deliver on MMC opportunities using both off-site and near site production. Near site production considered, as it has the benefit of off-site production but delivers social value for the local area
