State-of-the-art secondary school integrated with a primary school as part of the Wellington Gate Development. This first all-through school in the local area provides modern, accessible education for 600 pupils, supporting the growing community.

SDS delivered the MEP and sustainability design for St John’s Academy, a new all-through school for the Department for Education within the Wellington Gate Development in Grove.

The two-storey, 6,250 m² facility provides modern learning spaces for around 600 pupils from Nursery to Year 11 — the first all-through school in the area. Working with Bouygues and FP Hurley, SDS led design from RIBA Stage 3 to 5, coordinating the CLT structure and integrating efficient, low-carbon building services through off-site fabrication.

  • Full MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health) design, including a green roof and large photovoltaic array.
  • Sustainability and Net Zero consultancy, with energy-efficient and low-carbon systems such as air-source heat pumps.
  • 3D BIM coordination and COBie asset tagging to support lifecycle asset management
  • Construction-phase support, ensuring design intent was accurately implemented on site
  • Coordination of CLT structure and off-site manufactured elements.
  • Designed to meet DfE Net Zero Carbon performance requirements.
  • High-efficiency hybrid ventilation, renewable energy generation, and low-carbon heat sources reduce operational energy
  • Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and off-site prefabrication enhanced quality and programme efficiency
  • Green roof improves biodiversity and thermal performance.
  • Comprehensive BIM workflow streamlined communication and reduced rework.
