Finance Assistant – Part time or Full time

We are seeking a proactive and motivated Finance Assistant to join our team, based in Plymouth, Exeter, or Truro. This is an excellent entry level opportunity for someone working towards or keen to begin at AAT level 1, with access to structured development.  It is therefore a supporting role without supervisory responsibility.   You will support the finance team in the smooth running of our financial operations, with the added benefit of flexible working arrangements.  The role is not suited to candidates who already hold senior finance qualifications or have previously worked in stand-alone or supervisory finance positions.

  1. Under supervision and guidance, the job role will include the following:
  • Reconciling company credit cards
  • Preparing complex sales invoices and updating project sales information
  • Assisting with credit control queries
  • Processing supplier invoices and credit notes, and checking statements for accuracy
  • Setting up and maintaining purchase ledger and sales ledger accounts on Xero
  • Issuing purchase orders and Sub‑Consultancy agreements
  • Liaising with Project Managers, clients, suppliers, and third‑party providers
  • Updating and maintaining procedural documentation
  • Supporting sustainability data collection for carbon offsetting
  • General accounts administration and telephone duties
  • Other administrative tasks as required

  • Enthusiastic, willing to learn and enjoys developing new skills
  • Organised, reliable and willing to ask questions
  • Experience with purchase/sales ledgers beneficial – not essential as full training given
  • Has strong attention to detail and enjoys accurate, methodical work
  • IT skills, including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Methodical, organised, and confident with numbers
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive, “can‑do” mindset and ability to manage changing priorities
  • Working towards or attained AAT Level 1, equivalent or relevant experience
