Services Design Solution were appointed to design the mechanical and electrical systems for improvements to emergency care flow at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro. As Cornwall’s largest hospital, the site provides emergency, specialist, maternity, cancer, critical care and outpatient services
SDS is delivering the refurbishment of the Wheal Coates Ward Enhanced Perioperative Care Unit (EPOC), upgrading and future-proofing the mechanical and electrical services
Involvement
- Detailed MEP design for a critical care ward, including environmental, medical gas, power and life-safety systems
- Collaboration with the Trust, manufacturers and structural engineers to deliver a coordinated solution
- Detailed site surveys to assess existing plant, capacities and system layouts
- Fully coordinated Revit design delivered from RIBA Stages 1–6 alongside the wider design team
Benefits delivered
- Upgraded existing MEP services to create three HTM-compliant critical care wards
- Installed a new AHU with capacity for future adjacent ward refurbishments
- Undertook detailed plant space studies to facilitate AHU replacement and logistics
- Installed new UPS and IPS systems
- Provided a new oxygen supply to the EPOC unit
