Davy Building
A successful replacement and upgrade of twelve specialist laboratories, associated lecture rooms and offices within an occupied building.
SDS were commissioned to undertake the detailed design of the building engineering services for a £1.4m replacement and upgrade of the mechanical and electrical services at the
University’s Davy Building. The scheme comprised full refurbishment of twelve, 1st and 5th floor laboratories and associated lecture rooms and offices.
Involvement

The refurbishment and facilities enhancement included the existing specialist laboratories, clean room, acid room, associated lecture rooms, offices, associated
circulation, public space and sanitary amenities -
The scheme re-provided a number of specialist mechanical and electrical systems, IT and the AV infrastructure

Services included upgrade of the laboratory gases, compressed air systems, local exhaust ventilation, fume cupboards, cooling to the specialist laboratory
equipment, vacuum system and reverse osmosis water system -
Duties covered the review of peak summertime conditions and the implications of equipment heat gains

The assessment included prediction of future climate change effecting the environmental conditioning
