Hazelbrook SEN School
£7.7m secondary age school for Somerset County Council to support children from Taunton and surrounding towns. The SEN school provides 80-100 places for pupils with a range of additional requirements classed as non-ambulant.
The Hazelbrook Special Educational Needs (SEN) School in Taunton was designed to provide a wide range of inclusive and adaptable spaces to meet the needs of all learners. The development included classrooms, dining and hall areas, sensory and therapy rooms, specialist teaching spaces, administration and medical areas, meeting rooms, storage, and staff facilities.
Externally, the school featured carefully planned outdoor areas, including sensory gardens, habitat zones, a multi-use games area (MUGA), and an adventure playground, all designed to support wellbeing and outdoor learning.
Services Design Solution (SDS) provided full mechanical and electrical engineering design services, supporting the delivery of a highly efficient, comfortable, and inclusive learning environment. The design followed Building Bulletin 104 guidance for space standards and environmental conditions and was delivered as part of the Scape National Construction Framework.
