New facility connected to the existing Jubilee Building
SDS delivered the detailed coordinated building services design for this surgical centre in Taunton
State-of-the-art 9,855m² surgical centre featuring an 8-theatre suite, including two hybrid theatres for surgery and interventional radiology, a 6-room endoscopy suite, 22 critical care beds, and supporting clinical areas
High dependency and recovery spaces sit directly beside the theatres, allowing patients to remain with their specialist team throughout their care. The unit connects to the concourse and Jubilee buildings via glazed links overlooking landscaped courtyards, improving daylight access, patient flow, visitor access, and staff efficiency
Involvement
- List of tasks and services Building Information Modelling (BIM) to create digital 3D models, ensuring a collaboration with design team
- Detailed MEP coordination to ensure alignment with other trades, resolving potential clashes before construction begins
- Implemented first time fit methodology ensuring installations are carried out correctly the first time, minimising the need for rework
- Collecting and managing data on all installed assets for ongoing operation and maintenance
- Identified potential design conflicts early in the process to avoid problems with uncoordinated, specific design aspects
