The 116-bed emergency hospital featured an Intensive Therapy Unit and provided in-patient care, offering adaptable clinical support during a national crisis

SDS delivered HTM-compliant ventilation with infection control, supporting a windowless facility. The 116-bed emergency hospital included an Intensive Therapy Unit and in-patient care, offering flexible clinical support during a national crisis. It provided essential capacity, enabling five regional hospitals to maintain core services. Completed in under 57 days, the project showcased effective collaboration between SDS, BAM Construction, and the wider supply chain.

  • Collaborated with NHS, military, and construction teams to define the project brief
  • Infrastructure was a major element, providing resilience for the critical-care nature of the project
  • Designed a full mechanical ventilation system (no windows), meeting infection control and HTM standards to mitigate COVID-19 risks, in coordination with specialists and the Authorising Engineer
  • Maintained an on-site presence to ensure responsive communication and adapt to evolving project needs
  • Delivered a high-quality staff and patient environment within tight time constraints, balancing comfort and clinical needs
  • Returned to site, post-completion, with our 3D Data Capture Camera to scan and digitise the existing spaces and create a digital twin- to check spaces remotely, avoiding re-visits and unnecessary risk of infection
  • SDS were joined by Major Jamie Brooks – serving Royal Engineer Officer – on secondment as part of our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant. Jamie was vital, regularly visiting and liaising with military colleagues.
