Electrical infrastructure upgrades at GWR’s High Output Operations Base, Taunton, delivering a resilient and compliant power distribution system to support future growth and operational efficiency.

SDS were engaged by Sisk Rail to undertake the detailed design of electrical infrastructure upgrades at its High Output Operations Base (HOOB) in Taunton. The project supported continued growth and operational expansion while modernising the existing electrical distribution network to meet current standards. The design scope included sub-distribution to multiple buildings, such as mess rooms, workshops, offices, toilet blocks, and storage cabins. SDS’s involvement ensured a coordinated, future-ready, and cost-effective solution that improved resilience, safety, and maintainability across the site.

  • Completed detailed cable calculations, selectivity studies, and associated reports.

  • Sized and specified electrical distribution equipment and LV cabinets, allowing for future expansion and integration with existing infrastructure.

  • Detailed external service routes, taking account of site topography and existing underground services.

  • Produced detailed design drawings and schematics in accordance with GRIP Stage 5 requirements.

  • Delivered a cost-effective and practical electrical design, optimising performance while reducing installation and operational costs.

  • Enhanced supply resilience and network reliability through a modernised, fully compliant distribution system designed to GWR standards.

  • Improved safety, maintainability, and long-term operational efficiency across the High Output Operations Base.
