Torbay Mental Health Unit
The two-storey facility delivers 16 en-suite bedrooms, therapy and treatment rooms, staff amenities, and a family room, creating a calm, safe, and restorative space for patients and staff alike.
Named after Salus, the Roman goddess of safety and wellbeing, the ward embodies the values of healing, care, and protection through its design and operational philosophy.
SDS played a key role in the successful delivery of the new Salus Ward at Torbay Hospital, providing full mechanical, electrical, and building physics consultancy from concept through completion. Working closely with the design team, contractor, and Devon Partnership NHS Trust, SDS developed a coordinated MEP strategy that prioritised patient safety, comfort, and sustainability. The team’s expertise ensured that all building systems were efficiently designed, integrated, and commissioned to meet the hospital’s operational requirements, while supporting the project’s overarching goal of creating a modern, therapeutic environment that promotes recovery and wellbeing.
