Trent View College in Scunthorpe is a newly developed post‑16 SEND college created to offer an inclusive, supportive environment where young people can build confidence and prepare for adulthood. It provides 60 specialist places for learners with a broad spectrum of needs, including PMLD, SLD, SLCN and autism, ensuring tailored support for every student.

Designed by HLM Architects and delivered by Morgan Sindall Construction, with Gale & Snowden acting as lead Passivhaus designers, the project sets a new benchmark in low energy sustainable and inclusive education.

Services Design Solution (SDS) supported the delivery team by providing specialist MEP Passivhaus expertise, working closely with Gale & Snowden and Morgan Sindall, as well as the Passivhaus Institute, to help ensure the building met the stringent energy‑efficiency and performance standards required for certification.

Trent View College is the UK’s first Passivhaus‑certified SEND school with a hydrotherapy pool, setting a new benchmark for sustainable, inclusive post‑16 education.

It offers state‑of‑the‑art facilities such as:

  • A hydrotherapy pool – the first in the world to be incorporated into a Passivhaus‑certified SEND school.
  • Immersive sensory rooms, rebound spaces, and therapeutic environments.
  • Specialist vocational areas including a commercial kitchen, vehicle workshop, and a public café for real‑world learning.
  • Inclusive outdoor spaces and gardens designed for nature‑rich, sensory learning.

  • Provided specialist post‑occupancy Passivhaus MEP support to help ensure all MEP certification requirements were fully met, including a detailed Passivhaus review of the commissioning and MEP documentation.

  • Coordinated closely with filtration specialists FT Leisure to align the hydrotherapy pool systems with Passivhaus performance criteria,

  • Worked collaboratively with Gale & Snowden (Passivhaus Designers), Morgan Sindall, and the Passivhaus Institute to ensure all technical and compliance obligations were achieved.

  • Our specialist post‑occupancy Passivhaus MEP support, helped ensure all certification requirements were fully achieved.

  • By working closely with Gale & Snowden (Passivhaus Designers), Morgan Sindall, and the Passivhaus Institute, SDS helped streamline issue‑resolution, reduce performance risks, and support the successful delivery of a fully certified, high‑performing Passivhaus facility.
