SDS Quiz Night 2025

SDS is proud to announce that our annual Charity Quiz Night has achieved a record-breaking fundraising total, raising an incredible £8,300.11 in support of the Ocean Conservation Trust. With 30 teams battling it out across six rounds of trivia, the event was our biggest and most successful yet, with a 30% increase in raffle ticket sales compared to last year.

All proceeds will go towards STEMFest 2025, an initiative designed to inspire young people through hands-on marine science and conservation activities. Thanks to this funding, for the first time ever, the Ocean Conservation Trust will be able to offer STEMFest completely free to 1,000 targeted children across the South West, ensuring that financial barriers no longer prevent them from engaging in ocean conservation and related careers.

A Night of Trivia & Team Spirit

With a fantastic turnout of 30 teams, the night was filled with friendly competition as participants put their knowledge to the test across six exciting rounds. From general knowledge to themed picture quizzes, the atmosphere was electric, with teams going head-to-head for the top spot. Congratulations to our winners:

🥇 1st Place – CoCreate Architects
Prize: Tickets for the Plymouth Boat Trips voyage on the British Firework Championships, complete with drinks

🥈 2nd Place – Jubb
Prize: An Alpaca Walking Experience for six at Mount Edgcumbe

🥉 3rd Place – Currie & Brown
Prize: A Chocolate and Champagne Hamper

🥄 Wooden Spoon Award
A special mention to Obedair, who took home the tie-break last place!

Unforgettable Prizes and Generous Contributions

The fundraising success was made possible by an incredible selection of raffle prizes, which included a Snorkel with the Sharks Experience, £100 HonkyTonk Wine Library Voucher, Afternoon Tea for Two at Strawberry Fields, and a Gaia Spa Voucher for Two.

We also want to acknowledge the generosity of local businesses who donated raffle prizes in support of our fundraising:

Theatre Royal Plymouth, who contributed two tickets to see Cinderella

Plymouth Gin, who provided a Master Distillers Tour for Two

Circular&Co, who donated 48 reusable cups, given to each winning team as a sustainable prize. Circular&Co’s mission to promote circular design and reduce waste closely aligns with both SDS and the Ocean Conservation Trust, making their contribution especially meaningful.

Connecting to the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park
Many of this year’s prizes highlighted Plymouth’s connection to the ocean and the natural environment, reinforcing our ongoing work within the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park. From our first-place winners experiencing the British Firework Championships from the water, to our second-place team enjoying the landscapes of Mount Edgcumbe, this event not only raised funds for ocean conservation but also celebrated our region’s rich maritime heritage and coastal beauty.

Capturing the Evening
A huge thank you to Trevor Burrows, who kindly donated his time to capture the event through his incredible photography. 📸

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for raising a record-breaking amount for this incredible fundraiser. Thanks to your generosity, we are able to offer our STEMFest 2025 completely FREE for targeted schools in and around the South West, expanding our impact for children and ocean conservation even further! This is something we’ve never been able to do before. Thank you so much from all of us at the OCT.

A Night of Impact
This milestone fundraising total will help break down financial barriers to STEM education, ensuring more young people than ever can engage with ocean conservation.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed—whether by attending, donating prizes, or supporting the event in any way. Together, we are making a lasting impact on marine conservation and sustainability.

Why It Matters
This year’s quiz night delivered on three of our Together360 pillars: Empowering the Next Generation through funding for young people’s programmes, strengthening Community Connection by uniting people for a common cause, and supporting Planet Positivity by directing funds to projects that protect and restore our natural environment.
